SOS Children's Villages has been dedicated to supporting children in Somalia since 1983, when a country agreement was signed with the Somali government. This commitment was further reinforced when the Somalia Council of Ministries officially endorsed the agreement on 16th June 1984.
A major milestone was reached on 17th December 1985, with the inauguration of the first SOS Children's Village in Mogadishu, providing a safe and nurturing home for children who had lost parental care. Just months later, on 18th February 1986, the Ministry of Internal Affairs granted official recognition to SOS Children’s Villages, cementing our role in the country.
Four decades, SOS Children’s Villages in Somalia has worked to ensure that children grow up in a caring family environment, with access to education, healthcare, and the support they need to build a brighter future.
