Hermann Gmeiner School, Mogadishu

SOS Children's Villages Somalia provides direct Early Childhood Development and Basic education to children who lost parental care or are at risk of losing parental care. SOS Kindergarten School in Mogadishu provides ECD to an average of 105 children enrolled from the village and the community at large. The Hermann Gmeiner Primary and Secondary schools have a combined total of 496 students. Furthermore, SOS provides a number of scholarships to needy and orphaned students from the community in both the primary and secondary schools to minimise disruption for the needy and orphaned students.

The demand for the SOS Education facilities is increasing year after year because of the  quality of teaching, Innovative programs have been introduced including thematic learning, learning through play and use of teachnology in learning and Subsidised cost of education.

SOS Kindergarten, Mogadishu

Pre School education is a critical part in shaping a child’s life. Identifying this aspect of education , SOS Children’s Villages Somalia set up SOS Kindergartens alongside  the Village and 1 youth centres. Across the 1 kindergartends, we serve almost 50 children currently. SOS Kindergartens serve the children from the SOS children’s Villages and children who belong to families who are financially challenged.    This gives an opportunity for the children at SOS Children’s Villages to mingle and build strong relationships with children from the neighboring communities.

Medical Centers, Mogadishu

SOS Children's Villages  Somalia runs a huge medical program in Somalia through the establishment of SOS Mother and Child Centres. Health care in the SOS MC centres (Mogadishu, Afgoi Corridor, Baidoa and more recently Hudur) has over the years increasingly adapted to the needs of the local population. In addition to basic medical care, pre- and postnatal care for mothers and children as well as disease prevention and prevention are guaranteed. Due to the high malnutrition rate, the work often revolves around improved nutrition and hygiene standards to prevent negative effects on the development of children. Every year 250,000 children are treated. In addition, 85,000 pregnant women and mothers are cared for in the clinic every year. In addition, 40 nurses and midwives are trained annually at the SOS training centre according to national standards.

The SOS Children's Villages Somalia Medical Centre Baidoa offers basic medical care and information measures on disease prevention, mother and child nutrition, as well as psychological support, trauma work and awareness raising in the field of sexual violence. The clinics thus make a decisive contribution to improving health care in Somalia and contribute significantly to reducing mortality and morbidity rates. SOS Somalia is currently leading the Health Cluster in Mogadishu and advising the Somali government on setting up an alternative child care system.
